IN MEMORIAM

Master George Lawrence died on Thursday, May 28, at age 81. His training in Chinese martial arts began in 1963 and by 1975 he was teaching in his own school. Over the next 50+ years he taught more than 2,000 students. He brought to his teaching loyalty to his teachers—particularly Masters Wang Yihai and Liang Jiebing—and their legacies, a deep commitment to Chinese martial arts, and a unique sense of humor informed by a love of MAD Magazine and his stint in the US Army. He treasured his students and celebrated their accomplishments in CMA and other parts of their lives. He loved to tell a story, marveled at the night sky, and delighted in playing taijiquan (tai chi) outdoors, especially on Boston beaches or on the shores of Lake Champlain. Above all, he fiercely loved his wife Chris (of blessed memory) and daughter Nancy.
